Let’s talk about the love hormone, Oxytocin!

Oxytocin is a hormone secreted by the posterior lobe of the pituitary gland, a pea-sized structure at the base of the brain. It's sometimes known as the "love hormone," because it is released when people physically touch or cuddle.

“Touch is a pool babies could bathe in all day: Skin contact is a puddle to jump in and out of. Both are rivers of love and joy and both can help your baby & child heal from emotional wounds”

- Robin Grille

Oxytocin is released during conception, through pregnancy, after birth and throughout life. It is an ever giving hormone and so important in the early stages of childhood. When a parent holds, cuddles, touches their child, oxytocin is released. This will make the child feel calm & relaxed, in turn reducing the levels of stress in the body.

To enhance the levels of Oxytocin for you & baby try:

  1. Skin to skin
  2. Baby massage
  3. Eye contact & conversation
  4. Smiling
  5. Hugging
  6. A bath together
